New Neighborhood Artwork
The East Cambridge Business Association (ECBA) is excited to welcome new temporary artwork to the neighborhood! At the crossroads of Cambridge Street and the Grand Junction Rail Road Tracks you will see new artwork created by Chalkin About Boston that celebrates the East Cambridge and Wellington Harrington Neighborhoods and the new links that the Grand Junction Multi Use Path will create in the community.
The artwork is installed on the site of what was previously 686 Cambridge Street. The land will soon be donated to the city by Alexandria Real Estate Equities to make way for the construction of the Grand Junction Multiuse Path and pocket park currently being designed by the City of Cambridge.
The Grand Junction Multiuse Path will be a great addition to the community that will provide open space and recreational opportunities. It will also be a great connector between neighborhoods, open spaces, and businesses. The four panels represent the connections from Cambridge Street to Kendall Square that will be made by the new path.
The tracks have always been known as the boundaries of the East Cambridge and Wellington Harrington neighborhoods. Now the tracks will connect Cambridge Street businesses to business at One Kendall Square and to so many new visitors who will travel along the future Grand Junction Multiuse Path.
The ECBA has been a long time advocate for the creation of the path. Thank you to Elissa Surabian of Chalkin About Boston for the wonderful artwork highlighting the connection and local businesses. Thank you to St. Anthony’s Parish for allowing this to display on their new fence and Alexandria Real Estate Equities for their support of this installation. Stay tuned for more details on opportunities to purchase your own prints of the designs and support local small businesses in the ECBA.
